Luna Park Sydney
The glow of Luna Park under the northern end of Sydney’s Harbour Bridge has long been a synonym for Sydney harbour views at night. I grabbed this shot one evening while walking through the famous landmark with some friends and family.
Golden Light Cafe – Route 66
A brief halt at Route 66’s advertised oldest cafe for a lovely chat with the owners and probably the best burger I had in the States. The Cafe’s long history is documented in a quilt of photos on the near wall while locals chat and smoke in the back.
The Skyliner on Route 66
One of the many classic ’60s hotel signs from this typically named motel. This one was still operating with a likely advertised price of $19 per person as are many of the old hotels along this road.
Abandoned Hotel Pool on Route 66
Driving ‘the old road’ across the USA, we found abandoned hotel followed by abandoned hotel. Empty towns and deserted gas stations were par for the course. Incredibly, this hotel still had sheets on many of the beds and the linen room still stocked.
Jökulsárlón – Iceland
Few places I’ve been to compare with the incredible iceberg lagoon situated on the south east of Iceland. Fiilled with hundreds of icebergs, they slowly make their way out to the ocean via this vast lake. The 40 minutes spent astride a small zodiac deep in the lake were certainly some of the most memorable moments of my life.
Old Rocking Toy
Old rocking toy at a friends farm. This photo almost invites you to take a seat and relive your youth. A time of less plastic and more fun.
Tear Garden, Berlin
Coffin-shape memories merely meters from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. This vast garden is stark in its repetition and structure. An unyielding reminder of the human’s heart.
American Graveyard, Fayetteville, Arkansas
The patriotism with which the dead lie in the States is unique amongst the world. This well tended graveyard spoke of love and wars and the endless loyalty Americans have to their country.
Chopper in New York
Off 5th Ave, New York I spied a unique chopper in bright blue standing out from the wash of gray and brown that defines much of the city. This bike defines a vast sub-section of American culture and for one, I wouldn’t have minded jumping on and cruising for an afternoon.
“Dear God, help me to live for you today.”
I can’t pray this anymore.
